The Eco-conscious bathroom

The bathroom is one of the most frequently used rooms in the house.  Most modern bathrooms are fitted with ways to save water with half-flush toilet settings and low-flow shower heads and taps.  But there are other ways to be more eco-conscious in the bathroom, here are three suggestions:

1. Tree Free TP
smartass is made from a combination of sugarcane and fast growing bamboo that can be grown year on year with little wear and tear on soil quality.  It is also free of bleach, inks, dyes and perfume.

Every day we flush the equivalent of 27,000 trees down the toilet.  Trees play a critical role in absorbing the greenhouse gases and contribute to the water cycle by returning water vapour back into the atmosphere. Without trees, millions of species will lose their habitat and global carbon emissions will rise by 15-20%.

smartass offer different subscriptions for cartons of 48 rolls, as well as one-time purchases.  Get yours here.

I'd never even considered the impact that toothbrushes have on our environment before I found out about Toothcrush.  Toothbrushes actually impact the environment twofold.

Firstly, billions of plastic toothbrushes are discarded every year and most end up floating in the ocean or filling up giant landfills.  Secondly, the manufacturing processes that are used to make brush handles and bristles impact the environment as well as they require non-renewable resources like petroleum and crude oil to be produced, and release greenhouse gasses in the process.

Toothcrush is a subscription service which delivers a fresh toothbrush every month.  Get yours here.

Founded by Brianne, a biologist from Dunedin, Ethique is the first beauty company in the world to develop an entirely solid product range. All products are sold in compostable packaging, meaning zero consumer waste.  Ethique’s dedication to sustainable beauty practices has prevented the manufacture and disposal of more than 150,000 plastic containers worldwide.

This wonderful enterprise donates 20% of their profits to several charities every year.

You can support this wonderful cause by shopping at their online store.

We have a year's monthly subscription from Toothcrush and a 10% discount offer from smartass to giveaway.  Click on the subscribe button above or share your comments below to be in with a chance to win!
