Christmas in Auckland

There are some amazing wintry Christmas shots on Instagram.  Mulled wine and mistletoe, markets and ice skating, and festive lights and trees.  Try these hashtags to see some wonderful photos - #christmasmarkets  and #christmaslights.

In Auckland, there may not be any snow, but the city is ready for the festive season.  Here are the highlights...

1.  Smith & Caughey's
Established over 100 years ago, Smith & Caughey’s remains one of New Zealand’s best-loved department stores.  Every Christmas the windows are decorated and this year's theme is based on the children’s book The Pirate’s Night Before Christmas.  The animated windows tell the story of the night before Christmas aboard the Black Sark and being visited by Sir Peggedy in his clam-bedecked sleigh, drawn by a team of seahorses.  And of course, no Christmas is complete without a visit to Santa's Enchanted Forest, and a photo opportunity with Santa himself.

2.  Auckland's Giant Santa
Visit the flagship Farmers store on the corner of Queen Street and Victoria Street East and you'll find Santa keeping a watchful eye.  Have you been naughty or nice?

3.  The SKYCITY Winter Wonderland
Take a walk down lover's lane or visit Santa in the Sky.

4.  Britomart
With live music and a gift-wrapping service, Christmas is underway under the twinkling fairy lights at Britomart.  Shoppers will love 24 YAY DAYS - an advent calendar with daily discount vouchers.

5.  Christmas Decorations in the City
Scattered throughout the city are giant baubles and Christmas presents.  See if you can spot them!

6.  Franklin Road Christmas Lights
Every year, the residents of Franklin Road in Ponsonby light up their houses and invite everyone to come and join in the festive spirit.
